Hotel information

You are assured of a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. 2 guest lounges with open fire awaits you whether you are browsing through the books or catching up with your favourite show on TV. An outdoor patio area is available where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a pizza, weather permitting. A smoking room is also offered. You can awaken to the smell of freshly cooked local Carlow foods. A leisurely and relaxed breakfast is served in our well-appointed dining room each morning, and a lively chat is assured. A full breakfast menu is offered, which changes with the season and always includes vegetarian dishes. Shops, restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance, making us an ideal base to stay at for exploring Carlow and the South-East of the country. It is important to us that you enjoy your stay and if you have any particular needs, let us know. Not all our rooms are suitable for young children, so it is best to let us know well in advance. As a small property, Avlon House is unable to cater for hen or stag parties, please do not book these as refusal on the day can cause inconvenience for you and your guests.

The house was carefully constructed and decorated to feature contemporary comforts, offering a charm and elegance of the modern era. All rooms offer traditional furnishings. Toiletries, mineral water and broadband internet access are included with our compliments.

Food & beverage

Breakfast is served from 07:00 to 10:00. The breakfast buffet offers a selection of cold juices, yoghurts, cereals, cheeses, marmalade and jams, and fresh fruits. Cooked breakfasts include full Irish breakfast, egg breakfasts, Fried Fish of the Day and a continental breakfast. Tea and coffee with toast and bread is also served. For any special requests, please let us know the night before and we at Avlon House will try to meet your requirements.

Area information

Carlow stands where the Barrow and Burren rivers meet. Tradition states that the junction of the 2 rivers once formed 4 lakes. The name 'Carlow' means Four Lakes. The ancient town of Carlow is a bustling centre with great shopping, fine restaurants and first-class accommodation. Carlow has a well-earned reputation for lively festivals throughout the year. These include the internationally renowned Eigse Arts Festival, a 10-day extravaganza featuring visual arts, theatre, performance, comedy, dance, literary events and more. The river remains an important focus for the town, with a long established rowing club and annual regatta. Other influences include an international student population, a thriving arts and crafts community, and a long and lively tradition of Irish language use and culture.

Travel information

By Car From Dublin: - Go straight through 2 roundabouts at Braun and the B&B is located 900 m on the right, before Topaz service station. From Waterford: - Follow the R448 through all traffic lights (3 sets) and under the railway bridge. - The B&B is 500 m on the left just past Topaz. By Plane / Sea: Situated in the South-East of Ireland, Avlon House is approximately 90 km from the ferries and airports of Dublin, Rosslare and Waterford.

Avlon House Bed and Breakfast offers 5 elegantly furnished en suite rooms and is Carlow Town's only B&B to be awarded a 4 star Classification by Both the AA & Irish Tourist Board Failte Ireland. There is broadband internet access, secure parking and a patio area. Avlon House has 2 warm and cosy guest lounges with open fires, one houses a library of 700 DVDs the other the daily news papers and a 300- book library. Breakfast at Avlon House served each morning from 07:00-10:00, and a lively chat is assured. The full breakfast menu changes with the season, and always includes vegetarian dishes. Shops, restaurants and bars are within an easy walking distance.

Please state at time of booking if your arrival time is going to be after 18:00. Avlon House Bed and Breakfast is a small property and is unable to cater for hens or stags parties, please do not book for hens or stag parties as refusal can cause inconvenience for your guests and the hotel.
