In the territory of Cassibile, a lot of archaeological sites has been discovered, dating back even to the Bronze Age. Cassibile is known in the world for an important event: in fact on September,3 1943 it was signed by General G. Castellano, for Italy, and W. Bedell Smith, for Allied forces, the armistice that sanctioned the unconditional surrender of Italy and therefore the end of the II world war. The city is famous for its Greek theatre, inside the archaeological park, where the classic performances are still represented between May and June.
