Area information

The Hotel is opposite Izaro Isle, between Laga and Antzorape (nudist) beaches (1 km) and the skirts of Mount San Pedro (2 km). The hotel and its surrounding area offer a variety of landscapes: Holm oak woods, valleys, meadows and marshlands (2 km). You can also discover quiet country villages (3 km), part of the uniqueness of this area. The local feasts of the towns are another way of getting involved in the richness of the Basque Country. Walking enthusiasts can enjoy several footpaths, both on foot and on mountain bike, up the mountains or in the marshland areas. Laida and Laga beaches offer the possibility of practising a wide range of water sports, such as surfing, canoeing, sailing, diving, windsurfing etc. (1 km) Furthermore, visitors may also travel by boat between the coast and Izaro isle and on the Urdaibai Stuary, and may observe, among other things, a great variety of bird species. Bilbao is only 45 minutes away. Once there, you may enjoy a wide-ranging cultural offer, not forgetting a visit to the Guggenheim Museum.

Nearest airport: Bilbao Nearest bus station: Bizkai Bus By Car: -Head for Gernika but do not enter the town. -Continue along the ring-road towards Gautegiz Arteaga. -After crossing this town completely, turn at the crossroads towards of Laida and Laga beaches. -Once you have reached Laida, and after covering about 300 metres, turn in the direction of the hotel at the junction that leads to the neighbourhood of Gametxo.

Situated on a hill between the beaches of Laida and Laga, Gametxo offers a stunning views of the sea. Located within the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, which is a designated World Heritage Area. The Hotel is divided into 2 buildings of traditional Basque architectural style. The ample, 12000m² exterior of the hotel has garden areas with sun loungers, tables and chairs (in summer), a children’s play area, a car park and an area of native woodland with marvellous views of the surroundings.

Payment Information: During low-season (16th September - 14th June, excluding bank holidays, Easter week and fairs events), the hotel will charge a deposit of the 1st night's accommodation, at the time of booking. This is refundable only if the reservation is cancelled at least 7 days before the arrival date. During high-season (15th June -15th September, Easter week, bank holidays and fair events), the hotel will charge a deposit of 30% of the total cost of the reservation, at the time of booking. This is refundable only if the reservation is cancelled at least 28 days before the arrival date. Weekend bookings have 2 nights minimum stay restriction **

Food & beverage

Buffet Breakfast: 08:00 - 11:00. Cafeteria Service: 08:00 - 22:00. We serve sandwiches but we do not have a restaurant service. We can offer advice about the wide range of restaurants that are in the area.

Room information

The first building has 18 distinctly decorated double rooms fitted out to the last detail, which we are sure will be to your taste. Each room has an en suite bathroom, some with shower cubicles and others with whirlpool baths, saunas and water-jet columns. The Superior double rooms are not only spacious and delightfully decorated with views of the sea or the mountain but have a lounge space with sofas in which you can watch TV or read. We also have extra beds and cots. All rooms have access to the internet, TV and phone. The second building consists of 7 apartments totally-equipped for your comfort. The apartments have a separate double room, (2 of them are like a studio) a lounge with a TV, access to the internet and a phone, a bathroom and a fully-equipped kitchen with a washing machine, a microwave oven, a refrigerator and all essential utensils like crockery, cutlery, glasses, saucepans…

We have a newly opened meeting room for companies or groups that are interested in staging meetings, conferences, seminars, talks, courses or other events. The room can hold up to 30 people and is fully equipped. There is a big screen projector, internet connection, separate phone line and a variety of office supplies. It is also possible to have coffee breaks on the exterior terrace or add a lunch and dinner service.

Merrutxu Nekazalturismoa is a country house located in Urdaibai Park, overlooking the Bay of Biscay. A 7-minute drive from Laga and Laida Beaches, this rural hotel offers attractive accommodation with free Wi-Fi. The Merrutxu maintains many of the building’s original features, such as wooden beams.
